New York Lawmaker Calls on CBS to Fire Letterman for Palin Comments
Again, this is politicians getting involved in matters of private enterprise. If “customers” of CBS and Letterman’s show don’t like him, they will let him know. Assemblyman Kolb’s opinion is no more or less important than anyone else’s, but he’s way overstepping his bounds by trying to put his governmental position into play in deciding who to fire from a private enterprise.
Letterman screwed up and he admitted it and at least half-heartedly apologized. Of course, talk to Howard Stern or Imus about saying the wrong thing and losing your job. Of course in both cases, they are arguably better off afterwards, but also in their cases that’s why they had their jobs in the first place. Shock value is quite valuable in larger markets in particular.
With Letterman there’s no history to suggest he meant anything truly hateful. He just made a bad and very inappropriate joke. Everybody poops as they say. He merely pooped on his shoe in public. It happens. He’s quite liberal, but so are the rest of his ilk. That doesn’t mean they don’t deserve to have the benefit of the doubt when something like this comes up. Smack him on the head with a stick and send him back to work. At least he’s generating some taxable income for Uncle Barack to spend.
Letterman, truth is I’ve never watched him and now I know why you would never catch Johnny Carson stooping that low for a laugh. Steve thinks he pooped on his shoe but methinks he also slipped on it and fell face first in his own pile.
I’m not a big fan of Palin either she was not ready for prime time when McCain trotted her out as sucker bait for the conservative base rubes, she should’ve told McCain no thanks and saved herself a boatload of problems until she was actually ready. The only good thing that came out of that race is that McCain had gotten his shot and we’re finally rid of him.
The only hope this country has is with a leader like Ron Paul, you know someone who’s actually read the Constitution.
